My journey: From Launch to Crash to Rise!
My practices of mindfulness and productivity began in 2014 as a response to several years of tremendous upheaval in my life and the onset of profound midlife existential reflection.
I’ve always explored my life through a lens of intuitive curiosity and soon found myself focusing on a variety of philosophical teachings, particular those of Buddhism, Stoicism, and Existentialism.
As an INFJ who struggled with feeling that my introversion was a curse, I began leaning heavily into the study of psychology, particularly the analytical psychology of Carl Jung.
My perspective shifted as I realized that my introversion was one of the most empowering strengths in my life. I dove into the Jung-inspired typology research of Katharine Briggs and Isabel Briggs-Myers, the mother and daughter developers of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality assessment.
All these areas of interest began coalescing into what became my personal daily practice of Mindful Productivity.
Integrating my life’s experience in creativity and tech with an inspired desire to pursue a fresh path as a solopreneur, I began building a vision of my future. As the pandemic began to subside, I launched my first-ever business, joined the great resignation movement, and left the corporate world behind.
After three years of solid monk-mode commitment to developing my dream, the ambitious thrill of adventure and momentum began wobbling, veering into a turbulent decline and ending my launch in a death-spiral and catastrophic crash.
My entire world began falling apart and the overwhelming pains of existential anxiety and foundational regret pulled my life into a dark hole of deep depression along with the onset of panic attacks, which I’d never fully experienced until this moment.
With the unfolding of events throughout the world taking a tragic turn toward the end of 2024, my condition worsened even further over the following months. I was barely functioning, could not eat or sleep, and my physical, emotional, cognitive, and creative energy reserves were entirely gutted.
I was convinced that I had irreversibly ruined my life and that my future would continue unraveling into further failure until eventual total collapse.
As I resigned myself to acceptance of this as my fate, something happened.
I began what felt like a ridiculously impossible climb from the deepest, darkest pit of existence I’d ever experienced.
With each passing day, I found myself making surprising progress on my climb toward the surface.
As I write this it’s now May of 2025, in what feels like a miraculous reversal of perspective, over the past several weeks I’ve somehow emerged to the surface and crawled out from the wreckage. Even more shocking, in this moment I fully believe that despite all that is what it is, the potential to grow and thrive feels within reach again.
It’s now my sincerest passion to share with you the astonishing benefits that continue to reveal themselves through the insights and perspectives all this life experience has brought into light.
If my experience resonates with you…
If you feel that need for guidance to restoring your own connection with what truly matters in your life…
I wholeheartedly invite you to join me in this intimate little tribe I’m hoping to gather as we journey through our lives together on the path of Mindful Productivity.
Keep rising and growing forward because it’s never too late to thrive!
Wesley Evan Smith, May 2025.
